Canopy by Hilton Washington DC Embassy Row Review (2025)

Looking for an honest review of Canopy by Hilton Washington DC Embassy Row?

The Canopy in DC along Embassy Row is one of Hilton’s more upscale hotels.

Even while being in the middle of the city, the rooms are still quite spacious.

So many times we’ve stayed in big cities like San Francisco and New York and it’s like you’re in a box, but this was a regular sized hotel room.

It’s in a very walkable location, but it does take about 25 minutes to get to the White House and the National Mall area.

So if you’re walking that whole area for sightseeing all day, expect to get to about 20,000 steps or more!

But if you’re not doing that, it’s in a great location for so many other things, like some of the best restaurants and bars in all of DC.

Below is a video of a walk-through of what our room looked like.

I highly recommend checking it out so that the rest of this review makes more sense!

Canopy by Hilton Washington DC Embassy Row Review

We picked this hotel because we wanted to be in the middle of DC and be able to walk everywhere we wanted to go.

On our last visit, we stayed in a Club Wyndham in National Harbor, which was maybe 15 minutes outside of the city.

Yes, the overnight parking at the hotel was expensive, but to save the hassle of driving into the city each day and finding a place to park was worth it.

It also gave us more time to enjoy DC.

Because it was more affordable than other brands in the area, I was expecting it to not be much different than Hilton’s standard hotels like Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Doubletree, and Embassy Suites.

But it was surprisingly much more upscale in every way.

2 Queen Room

The only rooms that were available during our stay were the 2 queen bed rooms.

These are just the standard rooms and they already felt like an upgrade.

We didn’t have much of a view of anything in our room, but I’m sure some others do.

My favorite part about this room was the refrigerator that was hiding in a drawer.

There was a small counter top with a Nespresso machine and cups and underneath was a couple of drawers.

Unfortunately there was no microwave in the room though, so if you’re bringing home leftovers, there’s nowhere to heat them up.

The bathroom only had a shower, which is increasingly more common, though not usually in the rooms with 2 beds.

I love a room with a good jacuzzi tub, which is why we tend to stay in timeshare resorts more often, but it’s not an absolute must.

We didn’t really hear any city noise or noisy neighbors.

Our room was actually right next to the elevator and I only noticed the sound of it in the bathroom faintly.

The tv in the room is a smart tv, so you can log into Netflix and some other apps if you have your own account.

Other than that, they have very basic and random cable channels.

Valet Parking

If you’re bringing your own car, Canopy has valet only parking.

It’s currently $65 per night, but it is covered and secured.

I look at it as the room price was more affordable because parking was so high, so you break even when you compare it to other hotels and if you don’t have a car, even better!

You could also check out apps like SpotHero to see if there are any other overnight parking garages that are secure that you could park yourself for cheaper!

We used them in New York and New Orleans a few times.

On-Site Restaurant

The hotel has an on-site restaurant run by a very highly awarded chef.

It has a full service bar, which always had a handful of patrons each time we walked by.

They serve a variety of Italian dishes with lots of pasta options.

If I could only eat 1 meal the rest of my life it would include pasta, no doubt!

The best part about the restaurant is that it’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Their hours are 6:30 am – 11 pm daily, so you can almost always find something to eat or drink without needing to leave the hotel.

Things To Do Nearby

I have another blog called Discovering Hidden Gems where I’ve shared 30+ things you can do in DC (including all the best places to eat and drink).

But the main highlights are:

  • the Smithsonian museums are free!
  • my favorite places are the American History Museum & the National Archives
  • capitol building tours are free & they have a tunnel connecting to the Library of Congress
  • message your senator or representative to try to get a White House tour (also free)
  • there’s a new White House experience called The People’s House and it’s great for Instagram photos that look like you were really there

Now let’s talk about the food and drinks.

The best part of the location of Canopy is that it is so close to the historic and popular restaurants and bars.

Here’s the ones I recommend:

  • Old Ebbitt Grill – the oldest continuously operating bar and restaurant in DC
  • Round Robin Bar – popular place for politicians since 1847 (try the Mint Julep)
  • Grazie Nonna – we just happened to walk by and it was always packed so we tried it (I recommend the chicken parmigiana or the vodka sauce)

Conclusion: Canopy by Hilton Washington DC Embassy Row Review

We were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with our stay at Canopy Embassy Row.

The beds were comfy, the room and amenities were upscale, and we were able to walk around everywhere we wanted to go, even if sometimes it was a little far.

I would definitely stay here again, but plan to do other attractions that are a little bit closer (we went all the way to Capitol Hill one day).
