Maui Ku’ia Estate Guided Cacao Farm & Chocolate Tasting Tour

This is a 1 1/2 hour fun and educational tour beginning and ending at the Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate Factory.
Fun fact, the Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate Factory is the LARGEST chocolate factory in the entire state of Hawai’i!
Before boarding the van to head out to the cacao farm, the tour guide will spray your shoes to get rid of anything that might harm the cacao trees.
It’s the same as how you’re not supposed to wear shoes in caves that have been worn in other caves so you don’t bring in anything that might cause an infestation.
The tour begins by taking you to over 20 acres of cacao trees where you learn the process of how cacao is grown from start to finish.
Then they’ll demonstrate their techniques for how they do the harvesting and actually turn the cacao into chocolate.
The tour ends with an amazing 9-piece chocolate tasting in an awesome treehouse overlooking the ocean.
All of the chocolates are a variety of milk/dark chocolate, but they are not as bitter as traditional dark chocolate.
They also have several fruit infused flavors like lemongrass, calamansi, guava, and mango.
I loved every piece I tried, but my absolute favorite was the Ku’ia Dark Chocolate.
They have one that is “Grown and Made in Maui” and one that is “Made in Maui”.
The “Made in Maui” was my personal favorite.
Everyone is given a bottle of water to rinse your palette in-between tasting each piece of chocolate and there’s a centerpiece that doubles as a trash can for all of the chocolate wrappers.
The guide will also take photos for your group with the backdrop of the view from the treehouse!

After your tour, you’ll head back to the factory where you can purchase chocolates brownies, baking chocolates, coffee, and more.

Best Place To Stay On Maui
I highly recommend staying at Ka’anapali Beach Club when you’re visiting Maui.
This resort is owned by Hilton Vacation Club (who purchased it from Diamond Resorts).
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be an owner of this timeshare to stay at this resort.
You can book your stay through your favorite booking platform, just like you would any other resort.
I recommend Ka’anapali Beach Club specifically because for the same price as a standard hotel room, you’ll get a full kitchen, balcony with ocean views, a jacuzzi tub, separate bedroom and living spaces, and more.
If this room type is available, I recommend trying to book the one bedroom Deluxe Oceanview Suite.

When we visited Maui, we had a jam-packed 6 day, 5 night itinerary where we tried tons of restaurants, went on several scenic drives, and had some bucket list experiences like whale watching and participating in a luau.
Here are some of the highlights we recommend checking out on your trip.
Haleakala National Park
Catching a sunrise at Haleakala National Park is a must-do on Maui.
When we visited, our sunrise reservation was cancelled due to weather, so if the same happens for you, sunset is also a great time to visit.
Whale Watching
You can’t go to Maui without doing a little bit of whale watching.
There are so many to choose from and this one in particular is the one to look for on your visit: PacWhale Eco-Adventures Whale Watch Sail Tour in Ma’alaea.
Maui’s Finest Luau at Castaway Cafe
You have to go to a luau at least once when you’re visiting any of the Hawaiian islands.
Our luau was on a smaller scale than some of the most popular ones on the island, but the more intimate show was a great introduction to Hawaiian luaus.
Be sure to dress the part too when you go!
Road To Hana Full Loop Drive
I highly recommend driving the full loop route if the weather permits.
Most visitors just drive to Hana and back, but there is so much more to do and see!
West Maui Coastline Driving Tour
This half day driving tour takes you around to some of the most beautiful and secluded sites around the West side of Maui.
It’s a full loop of driving, so you can start and end the drive from wherever you want.
Maui Mini Golf
Just across the parking lot of the whale watching tours on Ma’alaea Harbor is the Maui Mini Golf and Sports Park.
It’s the perfect place to go after a whale watch or before heading back to the airport at the end of your trip.
Or maybe even before you check in to your resort!
