Best Things To Do On Maui For Couples

Maui is the perfect couples getaway whether it’s a honeymoon, anniversary trip, a baby moon, or just for fun.

JP and I visited for the first time together during February of 2021 to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

Maui had been on my bucket list since I was probably like 5 years old, so this entire trip was a dream come true.

We went for 6 days, 5 nights and we were able to fit all of these activities into this trip.

1. Whale Watching

We visited in February during peak whale watching season.

It was my third time ever whale watching and it was the first time I actually saw whales.

I highly recommend PacWhale Eco-Adventures in Ma’alaea Harbor for your excursion.

We did their Deluxe Whale Watching Tour which included lunch and drinks.

2. Cacao Farm + Chocolate Tasting

This is probably not something you would’ve guessed would be on the list, but it’s still pretty new on Maui.

We had the pleasure of being hosted by Maui Chocolate Tours at Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate on our recent visit.

We did a Guided Cacao Farm Tour followed by a Chocolate Tasting in a treehouse overlooking neighboring islands.

This was one of the biggest highlights of our trip and our favorite photo together came from this experience.

3. Road to Hana Full Loop

This is one of the biggest “attractions” on all of Maui.

You need to start around 7 am if you want to do this to beat the crowds, and be mindful of the weather.

When we did this drive, we didn’t get back to our resort until about 8 pm, so it’s really a full day itinerary.

We created a stop by stop itinerary of the full Road to Hana loop, including where to stop for food.

Most visitors only go to Hana and back, but there is so much more to see (if weather permits).

4. Haleakala National Park

We love visiting National Parks everywhere we go.

In the past few years, JP and I have visited over 25 parks.

So of course we had to visit the National Park on Maui.

Haleakala is most popular for sunrise, but it was cancelled during our visit due to the weather

Sunset I have heard is just as amazing though.

Since we had to change our plans to visit, we went in the late afternoon on our last day and descended just before sunset.

If you’re wanting to go for sunrise, it’s best to book a group tour so you don’t have to drive in the dark and you can get some rest along the way.

5. West Maui Coastline Tour

This is a self-guided driving tour using the Shaka Guide app.

It leads you to some amazing places like Kapalua, Honolua Bay, Iao Valley State Park, Petroglyphs, and the Nakalele Blowhole.

You can check out this full itinerary, including where to stop for food.

6. Sunset Dinner Cruise

Even though this is something you could do anywhere, this is especially unique to do while visiting Maui.

You’re able to see the neighboring islands and tons of whales.

It was set up for us through our resort, but it can be booked any number of ways.

7. Luau

You can’t go to Hawai’i without going to a luau.

We were treated to a private luau at Castaway Cafe in Lahaina due to a mix up with our original luau reservations from our resort.

There are several great luaus to choose from, so you really can’t go wrong with whichever one you choose!

8. Front Street

Front Street is like the downtown of Lahaina.

This is where the best restaurants and gift shops are.

We highly recommend restaurants like Paia Fish Market, Down the Hatch, and Star Noodle.

Front Street is also where the Lahaina Harbor is, so if you’re going whale watching or on a dinner cruise, you’ll most likely be leaving from here.

9. Mini Golf

Why not, right? If you find that you have a little extra time during your Maui vacation, we recommend playing a couple rounds of mini golf at the Ma’alaea Harbor.

There are some other activities like rock wall climbing and bumper boats too if you prefer.

Best Places To Eat On Maui

There are a ton of great restaurants all throughout Maui.

Ka’anapali Beach Club is a timeshare property that is open to the public. It’s on the beach, offers full kitchens, and is centrally located for everything you’ll want to do on Maui.
