St. Augustine is a great destination for couples looking to spend a relaxing day exploring together.

We visited St. Augustine during a week-long Florida road trip and found the historic district easy to explore on foot.

Many landmarks, restaurants, and attractions are located close together, so you can see a lot in a single day without feeling rushed.

This one day itinerary includes a horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic district, lunch at a local favorite, and an afternoon wandering St. George Street and nearby landmarks.

St. Augustine One Day Itinerary For Couples

This itinerary includes a full day of sightseeing, our favorite restaurants in St. Augustine, and the best hotels that we recommend staying at during your visit.

You really don’t have to get started until about 10 am, since not much will be open before then.

But if you enjoy going out for breakfast, you can do that first.

We usually just get the complimentary breakfasts from our hotels or we just skip it altogether, so I didn’t include it in this itinerary.

Morning: Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour

Taking a carriage ride is a great way to see the city and enjoy some quality time together.

We’ve done these in New Orleans and Charleston too!

We like to take carriage tours in historic cities like this because it’s a great way to see the whole city quickly and get some insider from the tour guides.

The tour through the city is about an hour long and the guides are knowledgeable about everything.

One of the highlights of the tour is Flagler College.

The campus is home to the Ponce de Leon Hotel, a historic landmark that was built in 1888.

Another fun portion of the tour is exploring the variety of the city’s architecture, which is a mix of Spanish, English, and American styles.

There’s a handful of historic landmarks you’ll see, including the Castillo de San Marcos, the Lightner Museum, and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine.

Lunch: Meehan’s Irish Pub & Seafood House

Meehan’s is a great place to stop for lunch.

It has all the best Irish Pub favorites like Fish n Chips and Bread Pudding.

I love my carbs, so I also tried their Mac n Cheese.

Afternoon: Explore St. George Street

This is the main area of St. Augustine to explore and my favorite part is that it is pedestrian only!

There are shops, attractions, restaurants, hotels, really just a little bit of everything.

The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse

The Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse is a historic landmark right in the middle of this area.

You can take a tour inside or just admire it from the outside depending on how much time you have.

City Gate Spirits Distillery

City Gate Spirits Distillery is a great place to go for free tastings (you just have to leave a tip).

I think the Apple Pie Moonshine is a fan favorite.

Castillo de San Marcos

Castillo De San Marcos is a historic fort right along the water.

The fort offers tours, but you can also just walk around the moat for free.

Dinner: Tini Martini Bar & Isabela’s Bar Cuba

For dinner, I recommend the Tini Martini Bar at the Casablanca Inn.

But you also want to make sure to save time for Isabela’s Bar Cub before your day is over.

Tini Martini Bar

My brother used to live in the Jacksonville area and my grandparents lived a little bit further down the coast.

So every once in awhile they’d meet up in St. Augustine for the day.

The Tini Martini Bar was always their favorite place to go.

They have more than just martinis!

Isabela’s Bar Cuba

We came here just for the Sangria, which comes in a pretty large glass, so I recommend just getting one (or even just sharing one).

Evening: Take A Stroll Through A Historic Cemetery

The haunted cemetery in St. Augustine is a popular landmark.

We didn’t have time to take a tour during our visit, but I highly recommend one of their ghost tours.

We’ve been doing ghost tours on more of our trips recently because it’s a good evening activity, especially for towns that don’t have much to do at night.

Casa Monica Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection

Casa Monica is another resort right in the middle of Historic Downtown St. Augustine and just across the street from Flagler College.

The resort is beautiful, highly rated, and one of the more affordable options in the city.
