Want to know what it’s like to stay in the Historic Powhatan Resort one bedroom unit? We’ve got you covered with everything we experienced during our stay here!

As part of our Ultimate US Road Trip, we spent 3 nights in Williamsburg, Virginia at the Historic Powhatan Resort in their one bedroom upstairs unit!

The Historic Powhatan Resort is part of the Diamond Resorts timeshares.

Diamond Resorts was recently purchased by Hilton Grand Vacations, but so far the resorts have only changed in name, branding, and management.

Everything else is still the same!

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to be a timeshare owner to stay at most timeshare properties.

You can book your stay here directly through the resort or through your preferred 3rd party platform just like you would any other hotel or resort.

You can see a full walk-through of our room at the Historic Powhatan Resort in this video on our YouTube Channel.

Historic Powhatan Resort Review

Since this visit was in April, our timeshare had most destinations heavily discounted.

So that is mainly how we decided that this is where we were going to stay while we were in the Williamsburg area.

Some other deciding factors were that we needed at least a one bedroom unit wherever we stayed because JP works remotely and it’s ideal to have a separate work space.

A mini kitchen or more was also ideal since we were cooking meals in the evening or eating leftovers while working.

With JP’s work schedule we weren’t able to go out for dinners and needed to be able to eat in the room.

Luckily this place had a full kitchen.

The drive up to the resort is really nice.

Entrance To The One Bedroom Upstairs Unit

When you arrive at your building, you’ll have a designated parking space for your unit number right in front of the door.

Once you open the front door, the green door, you’ll see units A and B.

One is the downstairs unit and the other is the upstairs unit.

You’ll know which one is yours when you check in.

Both the outer door and the door that leads to you actual unit will require room keys, so you won’t have to worry about random people being able to get in.

Should You Book The Upstairs Unit Or The Downstairs Unit?

When you book this resort, you have the choice of an upstairs or downstairs unit.

In our experience, we prefer to be on the highest floor possible because there is less noise.

In a place like this where there are only two floors, the benefit is that you’re not hearing people stomping around above you while you’re on work calls.

Obviously if you can’t physically go up the stairs, then the downstairs unit would be best for you or if you have small children that could hurt themselves on the stairs.

Pros For Staying At The Historic Powhatan Resort

This place was really unique and I’m surprised that it is always one of the cheapest timeshare options.

So for starters, this was an upstairs unit.

When you first walk in the door you go up a flight of stairs.

On that floor is everything but the living room.

The living room is in a loft space up another flight of stairs.

JP used that area as his work area and I used the bedroom.

Another cool feature is that even though this was just a one bedroom unit, it had 2 full bathrooms!

One was part of the bedroom and the other was just off the dining room.

We actually had this layout a handful of times at timeshares, which was a pleasant surprise.

The most used amenity though was the washer and dryer in the kitchen.

Since we were staying in a combination of hotels and timeshares, we didn’t always have laundry readily available to us.

So when we did that these amenities, we took full advantage, because this stay was part of a 52 day road trip.

This unit also had assigned parking, so we were guaranteed a parking spot right in front.

Things To Do When You’re Visiting Williamsburg

This Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown weekend getaway itinerary has all the best things to do when you’re staying at the Historic Powhatan Resort.

Those destinations are referred to as America’s Historic Triangle.

They are representative of the early days of America, recreating Colonial life, Pilgrim life, and the Revolutionary War days.

More Great Timeshare Properties Around The US

The Historic Powhatan Resort is a timeshare property owned by Diamond Resorts.

Diamond Resorts was recently purchased by Hilton Grand Vacations.

For now, only the management and branded name are changing to bring these resorts into the Hilton company.

However, these resorts are still the same as always for now.

These are the Diamond Resort properties we most recommend.

✔ Polo Towers – Las Vegas, Nevada

Polo Towers is right on the Las Vegas Strip, across from The Cosmopolitan.

We love the central location of this resort, as well as having a full kitchen because most Vegas hotels today have their fridge full of drinks that have insane mark ups, making them un-useable for yourself.

We’ve stayed in a variety of room types here over the years including a Two BedroomStudio Efficiency, and 1 Bedroom Accessible Room.

✔ Ka’anapali Beach Club – Maui, Hawai’i

Easily, the best Diamond resort is Ka’anapali Beach Club on Maui.

The photo below was the view from our room.

Using a timeshare in Maui helps save on travel costs and if you’re paying cash, you’re getting more for your money having a full kitchen.

The Suites At Fall Creek – Branson, Missouri

Branson is known for their entertainment, as well as having great outdoor activities, and their own theme park.

This resort is the perfect place to stay to see it all in Branson.

Varsity Clubs Of America – Tucson, Arizona

We absolutely love staying at this resort in Tucson.

It’s low key, but right in the middle of town, making it easily accessible to all the area tourist attractions and restaurants.

✔ San Luis Bay Inn – Avila Beach, California

San Luis Bay Inn is located in a small beach town about an hour and a half north of Santa Barbara and and only about 10 minutes from San Luis Obispo.

The resort is right along the beach and in walking distance to the entire beach promenade.

✔ Riviera Oaks Racquet Club – Ramona, California

Ramona, California is a small town about 40 miles northeast from San Diego.

It’s in a rural area that has a newly growing wine region, making for a great laid back resort experience.

✔ Riviera Beach & Shores Resort (Capistrano Beach, CA)

Riviera Beach & Shores Resort is an oceanfront property near the southern tip of Orange County, California.

It’s in a quiet area of the beach with hardly anybody else around.

We like coming down here for a few days at a time to enjoy the views and the peace and quiet.

✔ Palm Canyon Resort (Palm Springs, California)

Palm Canyon Resort is the premiere timeshare resort in Palm Springs.

We love staying here for fun stay-cations every so often because it’s always discounted within 30-60 days or less of travel.

They have a great pool with a hot tub and water slides built into the rocks.

✔ Mystic Dunes Resort (Orlando)

Mystic Dunes is one of the Diamond timeshares that really has a resort vibe, but the setting of being in Orlando, Florida probably plays a big part in that.

It’s just south of Disney World, with easy access to the parks.

The rooms are spacious and well kept, with just about every amenity when you stay in a one bedroom.

✔ Bell Rock Inn (Sedona)

Bell Rock Inn is a timeshare resort just South of the city center of Sedona.

It’s an older, smaller property, but it’s the most effective use of timeshare points.

Our stay was the equivalent of only about $65 a night!

Conclusion: Historic Powhatan Resort Review

Overall, this was a great place to stay while visiting the Williamsburg area.

We were close to everywhere we wanted to go, it was one of the cheaper places we stayed during our whole trip, and it had a unique layout.

It was also quiet when we visited since many people still weren’t traveling.

If we ever find ourselves back on the East Coast, we would definitely stay here again.
